David and Melissa Kline
David was born and raised in Huntington, Ind., and attended Union Church, an independent congregation outside of town. He fell in love with missions on the first of many short-term trips to Haiti while attending Huntington University. Throughout college he volunteered and worked for Youth for Christ in a local middle school. He graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Educational Ministry with a cross-cultural focus.
Melissa grew up in Grandville, Mich., and attended Banner of Christ UB Church (Byron Center, Mich.). Before beginning college she went on STUMP, the denominational youth missions trip, to Jamaica and realized how much she loved working with people from other cultures.
Melissa graduated from Huntington University in 2001 with a degree in Elementary Education. While in college she volunteered and worked for YFC. In August 2001, she went to Macau as part of the Global Ministries staff.
David and Melissa became good friends while they worked at YFC. Before Melissa went to Macau, they decided to start dating. Over the year and a half Melissa was in Macau, David also volunteered there for two months during the summer. They fell in love and were married on March 22, 2003. They lived in Huntington for a year while they raised support, and returned to Macau as a couple in April 2004.
Their main focus is doing relational youth ministry. David is acting as team leader in Macau, along with teaching English at a local high school. Outside of the classroom he does a lot with youth, including playing sports, going out to eat, and Bible studies.
Melissa handles a lot of the behind the scenes work while taking care of their two small children, Mia and Brandt. She also spends a lot of time preparing their home and food for the many people that come into their home.
